Frequently asked questions
- Which format is accepted?
- 81 characters, one per cell, row by row from the top left. The digits 1–9 are clues;
0or.marks an empty cell. Spaces and line breaks are ignored. - Where can a puzzle string be found?
- Every puzzle on Peak Sudoku has one in its Share menu. Most Sudoku sites, apps and forums, such as r/sudoku, use the same format.
- Why is a puzzle reported as having no unique solution?
- Its clues allow more than one solution. This is usually a copying error: A missing digit or a clue in the wrong cell. Check the string against its source.
- Is an imported puzzle rated?
- Yes. A puzzle with a single solution receives a Peak Score from 1 to 100 and a difficulty band, and hints work as on any other puzzle.
- Can a partly solved puzzle be imported?
- A string holds the clues only. To bring in filled-in digits and pencil marks, scan an image of the puzzle instead.
